The Office of General Counsel is part of the Division of Institutional Integrity. It provides legal advice, counsel and representation, and training services to Appalachian State University, to its constituent units and affiliated entities, and its trustees, officers, employees, and student leaders while acting on the university’s behalf.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Appalachian State University Office of General Counsel is to provide legal services for the University in pursuit of the following objectives:
- Assisting in the achievement of University goals within the framework of state and federal laws, and policies and plans adopted by the Board of Governors, President, Board of Trustees, and Chancellor;
- Compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and international laws in all activities undertaken by the University; and
- Education and training of University officers and employees to prevent or appropriately resolve disputes affecting the University’s operations.
